Role Models That Rock
Getting through cancer treatment gave me courage to do things I hadn’t tried before
Ivana Katz, Website Designer and Business Owner
Ivana overcame a life-threatening illness and faced her fear of public speaking while building a successful business.
She shares her story..
I was already working as a website designer when in 2017, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Life became a whirlwind of doctors’ appointments and painful treatments. I couldn’t move for weeks at a time and I lost 70% of my hair – my oncologist used to joke that I looked like a “hairless eagle”.
One sunny day in July, she told me that she considered me to be cured. I came home on a real high! Then I got a phone call that changed everything.
I was asked to present at a women’s business conference. I was terrified of public speaking, but it was a big opportunity for my business. And I figured if cancer didn’t kill me, this probably wouldn’t either.
For weeks before the event, I worked through each challenge so I was as prepared as I could be.
When the day finally came, I got through it without too many problems. I was so relieved and proud that I faced my fear and pushed through when I was at my weakest.
