Topic to be discussed – Search Engine Optimisation

Google looks at 200 elements of your website before it ranks it.  It wants to serve the most relevant information to their users.

Registering 20 domain names is not going to help your search engine ranking

Keyword research

Focus on intent behind search – the purpose of an online search – for example if someone is searching for Kmart, the intent behind it is they want to know where is the closest store to them.

Do not try to optimize for general keywords like “travel” or “carpet cleaning” or “wedding”.

Get more specific and if you are going to optimize your website for certain keywords, focus on “buying” keywords, not “research” keywords.

On page optimization

Create clusters of information around a topic

Pillar post – 3000+ words

Response posts – 1600+ words

Include links to relevant authority websites

Ensure the first paragraph summarises the main subject

Keywords should be included in

  • Domain name or URL
  • Title of each page
  • Headings of your pages
  • Page meta description
  • Alt tags of your images

  • Content of the page
