I provide women with everyday pretty and comfortable undies so they feel confident from the inside out!

What products/services do you offer?

Women’s undies
Candis undies are made from cotton and stretch, soft lace so women can feel everyday sexy! Pretty undies are no longer just for special occasions. Someone will see your underwear today – you!

Why did you start your business and how long have you been running it?

I started my business journey 2 years ago so I could be at home with my daughter. I wanted everyday undies that were pretty and comfortable but could only find underwear that was one or the other. So I designed my own. Candis creations launched online in 2020.

What struggles do you think most businesses face in your industry and what would you say they need to do to overcome them?

Fierce Competition
The fashion industry is highly saturated by large brands, so it is important to differentiate yourself.

Exposure
Online shops differ to bricks-and-mortar shops in that they do not receive foot traffic. Marketing is key to overcoming this.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest business accomplishment was making the front cover of the Canberra City News accompanied by a full page article (https://citynews.com.au/2020/digital-edition-march-12/).

What has been your biggest ‘fail’ so far?

The biggest lesson I learnt was not to go overboard when ordering product samples from a new manufacturer. I did this only to discover the quality was not up to the standard I was looking for. I would have realised this with fewer samples and could have spent the funds more wisely.

What do you love most about your business?

Being a fashion designer was a dream but I never thought it would become a reality. I love giving women a product that is high quality and makes them feel good when they wear it.

What do you find most challenging?

I find it challenging to switch off. Working from home means I always have access to my email so it is hard to resist checking it constantly.

How do you promote your business (please include as many details as you can)?

  • Word of mouth
  • Social media
  • Blogging to provide more information about my business and what Candis stands for as a business
  • Local publications

What business skills do you have (eg. graphic design, customer service)?

  • Supply chain management
  • Textiles and design
  • Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business
  • Leadership
  • Writing

What software did you/your designer use to create your website (eg. WordPress, Wix)?

My website designer uses WordPress.

What do you like about your website and what’s not working for you?

I love the look and feel of my website. Choosing the colours and fonts took time but was worth it.

What lessons have you learnt during your time as an entrepreneur?

You have to risk it for the biscuit! It is scary putting yourself out there but the worst thing that can happen is knowing you tried.

What key tips for success in business would you like to share with others?

Do something you are passionate about. Starting a business is going to take a lot of time so make sure you are doing something you love. Success will come more easily if you enjoy what you do.

What is the one thing that you want everyone to take away from this post?

Don’t be afraid to give achieving a dream a go!
