Hills Fabric and Craft De-Stash started the ball running back in February of 2016 and the others have come about from this event.

What struggles do you think most businesses face in your industry and what would you say they need to do to overcome them?

Struggles are real, being a mentor and the boss in many vendors eyes all in one, being the font of info about set ups, rules, visual display guru, insurance agent (nope I send them to my broker), marketing manager and mumma bear to all that goes on in their lives, and all manner of trouble shooting issues, knowing how to sort shire red tape, the foibles of the public, the negative nannies who think they own it all and want to destroy others instead of lifting them up, and current crisis that has hit us all with COVID -19 now shutting my business for the foreseeable future (gut wrenching for all), working out how to make an income now my main source has gone.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?

I was nominated for the Telstra Business Awards last year and the year before for Chamber of Commerce awards, did not win either and very fine with that, very chuffed to have been put forward. And just last week have Perth is Okay say “ arguably the hills biggest champion and the brains behind Perth Hills events”. Add to the amazing one’s who attend the Perth Hills Artisan Markets call us all the PHAMily

What has been your biggest ‘fail’ so far?

Biggest ‘fail” I do not see them as fails I see them as learning curves instead.

What do you love most about your business?

I love all aspects of my business, the biggest one is watching vendors grow and take ownership of their business, seeing them stand tall and come out from behind their safe zone and chat to people and be proud of what they make and do.

What do you find most challenging?

Challenges are a daily occurrence and COVID – 19 is going to be the biggest one to date, so I am learning about setting up online markets to ensure my people can be found and their products still sold. One challenge I face daily is that I am in constant pain and am awaiting surgery for a mashed bone in one shoulder, inflammation running rampant down right hand side of my body and four discs bulging in my neck, for my own sake I have to stop apply heat packs as pain medication is not an option and take a break from it all.

How do you promote your business (please include as many details as you can)?

I promote my mixed group of businesses via Instagram, Facebook, Website, other websites, newspaper, flyers, and pamphlets and also radio.

What business skills do you have (eg. graphic design, customer service)?

Skill set, multi tasker, copywriter (dyslexic one so it can be hilarious), high customer service skills, purchasing officer, negotiator, big heart, problem solver, advocate for the hills.

What software did you/your designer use to create your website (eg. WordPress, Wix)?

I run three Word press website and a Weebly one near completed.

What are some of your favourite business tools and apps?

I love using canva and have a separate account for each business concept so I have each branding separated, Google docs I love for throwing ideas down and expanding with, Google forms for applications and keeping track of vendor info, QuickBooks is a new love as I now understand their reports.

What do you like about your website and what’s not working for you?

Part in love with my websites, and now with COVID – 19 happening I will be able to update and get them back on track.

What lessons have you learnt during your time as an entrepreneur?

Never give up, yes stop breath and rethink and allow yourself to wallow in self-pity for a short period of time and rant if need be, but keep going.

What key tips for success in business would you like to share with others?

Write it all down, keep those notes, make goals, break down those goals, outsource even if you can not afford it as you will then work to afford it, ask for help and offer to help others.

What is the one thing that you want everyone to take away from this post?

Take away that we all can start from nothing and can create something to be proud of even when life gives you lemons.
