Name: Kerry Goode
Position: Authorised Marriage Celebrant
Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia
I provide my clients with the ceremony that is exactly what they’re after and is tailored for them.
What products/services do you offer?
Marriage ceremonies, commitment ceremonies, Naming ceremonies, Funerals and Memorials.
Why did you start your business and how long have you been running it?
I was authorised by the Attorney General’s Department in 2007 and have been a busy celebrant ever since. I consider it a privilege and honour to conduct a ceremony and be a part of such an important and significant time in their lives.
What struggles do you think most businesses face in your industry and what would you say they need to do to overcome them?
There are a lot of celebrants out there and its important to create a point of difference.
What has been your greatest accomplishment?
This may sound really trite, but every ceremony is a great accomplishment for me if the clients are happy at the end of their ceremony.
What has been your biggest ‘fail’ so far?
In the beginning when I was first authorised, I tried to do too much. I learned it’s important to take on a realistic workload.
What do you love most about your business?
Being with people at such a significant and important time of their lives.
What do you find most challenging?
Sydney traffic!! You can’t be late as a Celebrant and traffic is so unpredictable. I would rather arrive two hours early than be stressing in a traffic jam.
How do you promote your business (please include as many details as you can)?
Word of mouth is my most effective source of marketing.
What business skills do you have (eg. graphic design, customer service)?
Excellent customer service and superior attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
What software did you/your designer use to create your website (eg. WordPress, Wix)?
What are some of your favourite business tools and apps?
The world of social media has opened up business like nothing before.
What do you like about your website and what’s not working for you?
My website is simple and user friendly with information readily available.
What lessons have you learnt during your time as an entrepreneur?
Take is slowly and get it right- “ measure three times and cut once”.
What key tips for success in business would you like to share with others?
Never stop learning, up skilling and being open to new technology.
What is the one thing that you want everyone to take away from this post?
The famous adage of find what you love to do and it won’t be work is true.
